Experts from the Mexican Center Research and Training developed glasses that based on ultrasound, GPS technology, stereoscopic perception and artificial intelligence designed to help blind people navigate the space surrounding them. This device, perhaps the most complex of its kind, will have to enter the mass market sometime early next year. The cost of these points will be about $ 1,500.
Over the past few years has created several such gadgets designed to help people with limited vision. But as electronics continue to shrink in size, it is faster and requires less energy to operate, then the engineers have more freedom of action for the development of more compact and that much important, more affordable devices.
As for the new points, the research group led by Professor Bairro Corrochano used when creating technology of stereoscopic perception of the environment, which are commonly used when creating robots. Currently this technology is probably one of the most advanced. The device consists of a glasses frame on which has two cameras to create high-quality stereoscopic panoramas. Points are paired with a tablet computer, which processes the information and provides cameras audio prompts man.
Ultrasound technology, which is used in glasses, need to determine the close of static and moving objects. The system "sees" even transparent objects such as glass. In addition, the device can use a special AI that recognizes the location, reads road indicated defines small objects and details to be addressed "look" points (eg, currency notes or color of clothing). Eventually, GPS allows providing audio information about the movement direction. Battery capacity of such points is enough for about four hours of continuous use.
Corrochano and his colleagues have patented their invention and hope that by August of this year they will be able to release the first commercial prototype, and in early 2015 (if they find investors) - begin their mass production and sale. The final version of glasses, experts predict, will cost somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 dollars.
